Letter from the Co-Chairs

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Harvard Arab Weekend Committee and the Harvard Arab Alumni Association, we are excited to welcome you to the ninth annual Harvard Arab Weekend (HAW). The conference will be held on Harvard University’s campus from November 5 - 8, 2015. The White House commended HAW as “the premier Arab world conference” in North America, and this year we will strive to uphold our venerable tradition of engaging in constructive, innovative, and informative debates and dialogue.

This year’s theme, Building Bridges, is not only a set of inspiring and thought-provoking ideas, but also a call to action. We strongly believe that it is our responsibility to promote a positive, forward-looking view of the region that bridges the gap between its rich history and promising future. We think that many of the region's predicaments have been caused or compounded by the disjuncture of Arab societies and marked disunity among Arab governments. Therefore, it is imperative to seek innovative ways to effectively bridge the political, economic, and social gaps that have divided the region for far too long.

Our conference will seek to promote unity within Arab societies and bring in inspiring men and women who have worked towards achieving that end, and in doing so, simultaneously showcase the Arab people's ingenuity, commitment, and resilience. We will celebrate the Arab world’s achievements while urging our participants to translate diverse ideas into concrete solutions for a shared and vibrant future that leaves its mark on the region and the world at-large.

We look forward to seeing you in November!

Warm regards,

Kami and Aya
